Presentations made easy

What if your next presentation didn't require PowerPoint, and instead simply make use of your Bryght site? No need to worry that the latest file version is on your laptop. No need to lock yourself into a proprietary file format.

We spent some time yesterday playing around with S⁵: A Simple Standards-Based Slide Show System from Eric Meyer. Essentially with a bit of JavaScript, and some well done CSS, it's possible to turn a carefully designed web page into an online presentation.

"Great", we thought. So, last night I whipped together a quick Drupal module to make it possible to view a "book" as a slideshow presentation. You can see a simple demo in action over on our test site. the module is still a little rough around the edges, but we'll have it cleaned up and ready for release in due time.

That is to say, I'd *love* to get my hands on this code. I'f you're not saving it for something special (Belgium?), maybe you could give a developers' sneak preview and start collecting patches against what you already have?

I assume most of it is in the javascript and css anyway, right? So if you don't mind, maybe I'll go take a look.... :-)

I've been using Drupal some for presentations already, so this is a great addition.

Suggestion: How about implementing Trackback? I posted about this on Kairosnews and would have been glad to use it to ping you back.

We'll have trackback turned on when we upgrade our site to the 4.5 version of Drupal. Either that, or some "what's related" tools that automagically show linked sites, without having to enable any sort of arcane protocol (because just linking is how the web works).

awesome stuff.

these presentations only work when the markup in the book page is valid, thoughtful xhtml. so we need a way to insure encourage authors to write in this manner. my best thought so far is to ditch html and force users to author using bbcode or textile or markdown or some syntax which will then build proper html

This is truely amazing! Perhaps the "presentation view" link should be besides the "printer friendly view" ?

My book pages are fairly long. Well, not that long, but certainly they won't fit into a single slide screen. Would automatic pagination be difficult to implement? (kind of like the automatic break tag in node preview)

At first thought, I'd say that one slide per book page is a reasonable rule. Use mutliple book pages if your content won't fit on one slide.
